December film preview

The year’s winding down, the weather outside’s getting frightful and we’re about to get the last set of films for 2015 and we have a few treats in store for sure coming out in the next few weeks and here are a few.

In The Heart of The Sea – released on the 11th of December

Directed by Ron Howard

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson, Tom Holland.

Ron Howard directs this period drama in 1820 based on the true story of the whaling ship the Essex, which is attacked and destroyed by a sperm whale, while its crew struggle to try and survive as they’re shipwrecked and stranded at sea for 90 days.


Star Wars The Force Awakens – released on the 18th of December (17th in the UK).

Directed by JJ Abrams.

Starring: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Domnhall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita N’yongo, Andy Serkis, Peter Mayhew.

JJ Abrams takes Star Wars into a new direction and brings it to a new generation with The Force Awakens, combining original elements, themes and characters from the original trilogy with a few new updates, characters and locations. Set decades after the events of the original trilogy, the empire – now the first order is still going strong and is still at war with the rebellion – now the resistance, as certain force sensitive individuals seem to be drawn to the force.


Concussion – released on the 25th of December.

Directed by Peter Landesman.

Starring: Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson, David Morse, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Concussion is a dramatic telling of the true life story of Dr Bennet. Omalu who tried to raise awareness of the dangers of playing in the NFL because of its nature as a high contact sport as he tried to make more people aware of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and the NFL tried to shut him down.


Joy – released on the 25th of December.

Directed by David O. Russell.

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper.

J-Law and Bradley Cooper re-unite again for Joy, a biopic based on the true life story of Joy Mangano, a driven mother, businesswoman and inventor who strives for better things in her life and creates her own business.


The Revenant – released on the 25th of December.

Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domnhall Gleeson, Will Poulter.

The Revenant is a period drama set in 1823 after an explorer is attacked and left for dead by members of his own hunting team, he strives to survive and get revenge on his attackers.
