February film preview

We did it guys, the veritable film wasteland that is January is now over as we slog through winter and progressively edge towards spring and long awaited blockbusters like Batman V Superman but hold the phone, we are talking about February after all, so here are some films to look out for.

Hail, Caesar! – Released on the 5th of February

Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen

Starring: George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Frances McDormand, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, Alison Pill.

The Coen brothers direct this period drama set in the the 1950s in the world of hollywood film making after a popular actor vanishes during filming, fixer Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin) attempts to find him and get to the bottom of the mystery.

 

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – Released on the 5th of February

Directed by Burr Steers

Starring: Lily James, Sam Smith, Lena Headey, Matt Riley, Charles Dance.

A pretty self explanatory film, based on the novel of the same name that parodies Pride and Prejudice, adding a nice dosage of zombies in this intriguing looking twist, don’t expect a straight comedy though as the film looks to be fairly faithful to the story otherwise, with the added premise.

 

Regression – Released on the 5th of February

Directed by Alejandro Amenabar

Starring: Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Thewlis, Dale Dickey, Devon Bostick, Aaron Ashmore.

Psychological thriller taking place in Minnesota in 1990 as a detective investigates a reported case of past sexual abuse of 17 year old Angela (Emma Watson) who seems to have no recollection of it occuring.

 

Deadpool – Released on the 12th of February

Directed by Tim Miller

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein, Morena Baccarin.

The merc with a mouth and cult comic book favourite character Deadpool finally gets his seemingly faithful on screen adaptation in the upcoming R-rated action comedy film, following the characters origin story and wacky adventures, expect a lot of insults, cursing and well, you know what you’re in for by this point if you’re going to see the film.

 

Zoolander No 2 – Released on the 12th of February

Directed by Ben Stiller

Starring: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrel, Penelope Cruz, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Olivia Munn, Christine Taylor.

Zoolander gets its long awaited(?) sequel with a new updated story featuring the quirky model alongside his friend Hansel McDonald (Owen Wilson) as they try and infiltrate the world of high fashion again in order to stop a spate of assassinations of celebrities.

 

Eddie The Eagle – Released on the 26th of February

Directed by Dexter Fletcher

Starring: Taron Egerton, Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken.

Part biography part comedy drama centred on the real life story of Olympic athlete Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards and his exploits in the 1988 winter Olympics.

 

Gods of Egypt – Released on the 26th of February

Directed by Alex Proyas

Starring: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, Geoffrey Rush, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Young.

Fantasy adventure film set in mythical ancient Egypt as the God set takes over Egypt, a human allies with the God Horus to retrieve his eye and order to fight back in order to save Egypt from Sets’ tyranny.

 

Triple 9 – Released on the 26th of February

Directed by John Hillcoat

Starring: Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet.

Gritty crime drama following a group of criminals and corrupt cops who plan to pull off a daring heist by activating a ‘Triple 9 call’ in the city.

    • Yeah definitely, I tend to always look forward to new Coen brothers films and Hail Caesar looks like it could be one of their funniest, I mean Ralph Fiennes is in it… that is all.

      Deadpool should be a lot of fun and Triple 9 looks gripping.
