February film preview

January is over, finally. As we edge ourselves further into 2019 and closer to some major releases coming out later in the year but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, it’s just month 2/12 but there are some anticipated films coming out regardless. I’m going with US release dates by default).

The Lego Movie: The Second Part – released on February 8th

Director – Mike Mitchell

Starring: Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Tiffany Haddish, Will Arnett, Stephanie Beatriz, Charlie Day, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Maya Rudolph

Sequel to the  2014smash hit The Lego Movie, once again we follow plucky do-gooder Emmett Brickowski and his friends as they face off against an alien invasion that threatens to destroy their world.


Alita: Battle Angel – released on the 14th of February

Director – Robert Rodriguez

Starring: Rosa Salazar, Mahershala Ali, Eiza Gonzalez, Jennifer Conolly, Michelle Rodriguez, Christoph Waltz, Lana Condor, Jackie Earl Haley and Ed Skrein.

Live action outing adaptation of the action adventure manga of the same name, following cyborg Alita as she tries to come to terms with her origins, identity and place in the world.


Happy Death Day 2 U – released on the 13th of February

Director – Christopher Landon

Starring: Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews and Suraj Sharma.

Sequel to Happy Death Day, after Tree Gelbman broke the seemingly random time loop she was caught in forcing her to re-live a day that she died in over continuously, finding herself and her friends in a new mysterious time loop.


Fighting With My Family – released on the 13th of February

Director – Stephen Merchant

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Lena Headey, Florence Pugh, Vince Vaughn, Stephen Merchant, Nick Frost, Jack Lowden and Saraya Jade Bevis.

Biographical drama following the upbringing of former wrestling superstar Paige, as her family tours the UK performing at live events as she and her brother aspire to join the WWE.


How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World – released on the 22nd of February

Director – Dean DeBlois

Starring: Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Kit Harington, Kristen Wiig, Jay Baruchel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and America Ferrera.

Final installment in the How to Train your Dragon trilogy, following Hiccup again, as he tries to find ‘the hidden world’ of Dragons before an evil tyrant does.
